A Decision Making Process to be Remembered

I have to say, the class activity we had on decision making was HECTIC!! Man... that was like a mob arguing against each other. The way I handle such conflict is through withdrawal. In the beginning of the decision, I thought it was a great opportunity for us to bring up our grade. I wanted to participate in the decision making process and give out some of my idea. However, the discussion is so much different from what I had in mind. So after few attempts to speak out my idea and failed. I completely gave up on the opportunity. I just sat there, looked at the clock, waited for the class to end and let the other people do whatever they want to do because I felt that we are not going any where and at the end, the whole thing wouldn't work out anyways.

If I have to choose the way I would react again, I would still choose to withdraw from this class activity. But I guess as for this class assignment, I have no other choice but to choose. I wouldn't take on the leadership role because, personally, I think Rich did a great job negotiating with the entire class. Compromising with the class?? I don't think it'll work too. People really didn't seem like they want to change their opinions or give in. But I do want to thank Sharisse for agreeing to move the extra credit up (as well as those who talked her into it). So if really really really have to choose, I would use accommodation to deal with this conflict. I think if we are willing to put aside our self interests and promote the interest of everyone, particularly those who got a low grad, the process would go smoother and would be less chaotic.

(P.S. I am glad the proposal went through at the end)

In a way I kind of agree accommodation would have been a good decision but it's like they say "its the battle of the fittest." I understood where Sharisse came from saying how if everyone had the opportunity to get an "easy" A, everyone would be on the same level, in terms of grading. The final decision of taking the higher of the two grades is the best decision, by far. It's too bad we could not have come up with it earlier instead of having to rely on the professor to find the best solution.

A lot of people like you chose not to participate in. I tried to raise my voice but got lost in that loud crowd. As far as the accommodation as a way to handle the conflict, i do not agree with you on that girl, Sharisse who got a high grade and did not want anyone to be on the same level as she is. I would not thank her because what she did was i think compete to win since she got a good grade, she insisted on a low extra credit so, no one could have come close to her grade. I think that was selfish right in the beginning. What happens if everyone is in the same level? Personally, if i had a good grade, i wouldn't mind the others giving the opportunity to be on the same level as me. This simply was not a bonus from corporation where everyone competes.

I agree that this class was a mess. We almost got nowhere. Some people were too greedy and tried to benefit too much. It is hard to please everyone therefore compromising would be the best. I wish that we were more organized and it would have been better if everybody's voice was heard rather than some of us trying to tone others out.
